Sophie’s a real catalyst for learning
– the effect of what she does reaches far beyond the training day.
— BRYONIE BADCOCK, PEARSON
Sophie’s work is enriching. She gives us a point of view that we otherwise would not have. She questions things that need to be questioned. She awakens our understanding of what our users really want.

What our UX coaching for non-designers is like: Bryonie's testimonial

“Working with Sophie has changed the way I approach my work – not in big, heavy ways but through the many micro-adjustments I take away from each conversation. Each may be a small intervention but they have a fantastic butterfly effect.”
Bryonie Badcock, Pearson

“I first encountered Sophie around 2012. She was part of a small team shaping our organisational thinking. I wanted to understand more about what Sophie was doing and I attended some of the sessions she was running on user experience (UX) and personas. I quickly realised her value to my HR-focused work.

“How could we make the employee lifecycle lean and enjoyable? How do we remove unnecessary barriers to the way staff engaged with us? These were just some of the issues we explored, but I remember one session in particular which centred on UX and interviewing. We role-played and spent a couple of hours in mock interviews and the process really enabled me to elevate my own interviewing. The objective techniques and other interventions we explored have since enabled me to get far more meaningful outcomes from the people I have interviewed.

“I also really appreciated the way Sophie ran the session. She walked us through the topic in a really engaging way with lots of interaction.”

‘What if’?

“It’s very easy to work with Sophie. She’s really open minded and interesting, which helps in addressing the big ‘what if’ questions.  Exchanging ideas with her is a challenging experience – and I mean that in a good, very positive way! She has a very easy way of helping you think around issues and find the innovation.”

The butterfly effect

“Working with Sophie has changed the way I approach my work – not in big, heavy ways but through the many micro-adjustments I take away from each conversation. Each may be a small intervention but they have a fantastic butterfly effect.

“She has a fascinating way of luring learning out of you. She’s extremely knowledgeable, of course, but she provides that knowledge in context, and in a way I can apply. I’ve since shared the tools she gave me with others, so she’s a real catalyst for learning – the effect of what she does reaches far beyond the training day.”

“I need to talk to Sophie”

“It can be really easy to get bogged down in industry-specific issues and language – but actually the issues that affect my industry, and the methods I apply to address them, could work across industry with any problem.

“The challenge is that, if I’m asked to talk to a broad industry audience, for example, I need to approach it from a wider, less insular perspective. That’s the trigger for me talking to Sophie today.

“Sophie helps me identify the concepts and get beyond the alienating language so my ideas can apply to anyone and have a much greater reach.”
